Music

Impact:

  • 2 Schools
  • 41 Learners

Our Music Programme encourages music appreciation. It offers young people, who otherwise have no access to any music training, creative and innovative ways to listen to and play music on their present level. With the help of trained music facilitators, boys and girls aged 13 to 17 are exposed to a wide range of musical skills development that can help direct them to the right paths for success in music and in life. The programme also teaches responsibility, co-operation, leadership and teamwork through care of instruments, practice, solo, and group performance.

Background:

In 2019 we were able to start a brand new music project in picturesque Suurbraak. The opportunity arose when a variety of instruments were donated to the Verenigde Sendingkerk (United Mission Church) and our Foundation was allowed the use of them free of charge. We decided to sponsor the talented Gary Crawford as facilitator and launched the music education project. The children seemed to have a natural talent and they made great progress. Unfortunately, Gary tragically passed away and we had to find a different modus operandi.

Where:

Currently we offer music lessons at Mullersrus Primary School. The energetic Mr Walter Conrad teaches participants to read music and play the recorder.

The programme is still very ‘young’ but the participants are enthusiastic and motivated.

The Mullersrus Music Project promises to deliver interesting outcomes. Hopefully we’ll soon be able to hear and watch another young person enabled aspiring to a career in music! After all, our motto is ‘Lighting flames of creativity and hope in young lives”.
