The Light of Africa Foundation (LFA) proudly announces the official opening of its third school library, coinciding with South African Library Week 2024. From the 18th to the 24th of March 2024, communities across South Africa unite under the theme “Libraries Foster Social Cohesion”, honouring the vital role libraries play in fostering connections and promoting unity.
Amidst this nationwide celebration, St. Theresa’s Primary School in Welcome Estate, Cape Town, was enveloped in excitement on Friday, the 15th of March 2024, as the school leadership, stakeholders, and eager learners gathered for the grand opening of their new library. The air buzzed with anticipation, heightened by the sight of students adorned in costumes portraying their favourite book characters, embodying the enchanting world of literature.
The journey to establish this haven of knowledge and imagination was made possible through the unwavering support of donors like you. LFA spearheaded a dedicated fundraising campaign, rallying resources for essential components including books, a library software system, decor, shelving units, furniture, paint, window blinds, cushions, and crucially, the appointment of a library assistant for the year. Furthermore, comprehensive training sessions were conducted to equip both the appointed assistant and the teaching staff with the necessary skills to effectively manage and utilise the library resources.
The impact of this initiative extends far beyond the confines of the school walls, as it promises to enrich the lives of over 600 learners and academic staff. With access to a well-curated collection of books and a conducive learning environment, these young minds are poised to embark on a journey of intellectual growth and discovery.
As we reflect on this momentous occasion, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every donor who has contributed to this noble cause. Your generosity has not only facilitated the creation of a tangible resource but has also ignited a beacon of hope and opportunity for the learners at St. Theresa’s Primary School.
